Abstract

In teaching and learning Grammar in Written Discourse, many students still have difficulties in mastering grammar. They have problems with tenses, parts of speech, WH Questions, etc. They also get difficulties constructing sentences while communicating. Nowadays, the teaching strategy at the university level should be updated by using technology-enhanced learning. Therefore, the lecturer should apply a sophisticated learning strategy to get the students’ attention, participation, and improves grammar mastery. The objectives of this study are to describe the effectiveness and the students’ perception in implementing Computer-Mediated Communication through Artificial Intelligence and Human-to-Human in teaching English Grammar in Written Discourse to students with different personalities at Universitas Muria Kudus. The design of the study is mixed-methods. It is an explanatory sequential mixed methods design. The participants of the study were the students of the English Grammar in Written Discourse class of the English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus in 2020/2021 academic year. There are two types of data in this study, quantitative data and qualitative data. Quantitative data are the score of pre-test and post-test, meanwhile qualitative data are the result of the students’ perception towards Computer-Mediated Communication through Artificial Intelligence and Human-to-Human in teaching English Grammar in Written Discourse. The results showed that Computer-Mediated Communication through Artificial Intelligence and Human-to-Human is effective to students with different personalities in teaching English Grammar in Written Discourse. Furthermore, the result of students’ perception towards Computer-Mediated Communication through Artificial Intelligence and Human-to-Human is also effective in teaching English Grammar in Written Discourse.
