Abstract

Reading skills are an important aspect of communication skills. Ability to communicate using character education. Lack of character education in students needs teaching materials. Teaching materials in an effort to overcome these problems, learning Indonesian needs to be packed with material that is challenging, interesting and meaningful. This study aims to: (1) Describe the characteristics of character-based Indonesian intensive reading teaching materials that are effective with the needs of Islamic boarding school students and teachers, (2) Test the validity of character�based intensive reading Indonesian language text teaching materials in class IV of Elementary School of SDN Islamic Boarding Schools, (3) Analyze the feasibility of developing character-based intensive reading Indonesian language text teaching materials in class IV Elementary Schools in Islamic Boarding School Elementary School IV grades, (4) Test the effectiveness of character-basedintensive reading Indonesian language text teaching materials in class IV Elementary Schools Islamic boarding schools. The results show that, (1) the teaching materials for reading intensive Indonesian language texts based on characteristics are in accordance with the needs of student learning outcomes. (2) The results of teaching materials are valid by experts, including teaching materials experts and language experts. Expert analysis of learning teaching material validators with a percentage of 95%, language validator experts with a percentage of 95%, (3) Teaching materials are considered appropriate based on student results obtaining a percentage of 92% in the very feasible category, teacher percentage results obtaining 95% in the very feasible category, ( 4) Intensive text reading teaching materials are effective for improving learning outcomes based on hypothesis testing on a sig.(2-tailed) value of 0.026 <0.05 means that Ho is rejected, meaning that there is a difference in increasing learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes
