Abstract

This research discussed the representation of American Teenagers’ Love Actualization in Always and Forever, Lara Jean novel by Jenny Han. This research aims to identify the signs of teenagers’ love actualization that have been found in Always and Forever, Lara Jean, and to describe how the love actualization for American teenagers’ is represented in Always and Forever, Lara Jean novel. This research used qualitative research methods and Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotics theory. Peirce’s semiotics used by the researcher is a triadic model consisting of three components; representamen, object, and interpretant. The findings of this study showed that there are twenty-seven signs related to the teenagers’ love actualization in Always and Forever, Lara Jean. The signs were analyzed by the first modeling signifying system. And the researcher described the representation of the secondary signifying system, which consisted of icons, indexes, and symbols. Each sign found is described iconically, indexically, symbolically which can be seen from the interpretation of the signs of American teenagers’ love actualization described in Always and Forever, Lara Jean.
