Abstract

Science learning is a process that helps students make their learning more meaningful so that they can master science knowledge and concepts and science laws through process competencies and apply them in everyday life. Based on observations at SMPN 16 Semarang, the cognitive abilities and computational thinking of students are still relatively low due to the use of media that is less interactive and has not utilized ICT (Information and Communication Technology). This study aims to analyze the results of implementing Quizwhizzer as a learning media on cognitive abilities and computational thinking of students on vibration, wave and sound materials. This research method is experimental with Pre-Experimental research type with quantitative approach using one group pretest postest method. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 16 Semarang, the population used in this study were students of class VIII E at SMPN 16 Semarang in the 2022/2023 school year. The data collection technique used purposive sampling. Data collection using test instruments in the form of multiple choice questions and description questions. The results of this study are obtained N-gain value on cognitive ability variable of 0.8004 with high category and N-gain test results on computational thinking variable of 0.8328 in high category. This means that the N-gain value shows an increase in both cognitive ability and computational thinking. The results of the t-test using the Wilcoxon test on the cognitive ability variable obtained a value of w count ˂ w table of 0.000 while the results of the t-test using the Wilcoxon test on the computational thinking variable obtained a value of w count ˂ w table of 0.000. This means that from the results of the differential test, the use of Quizwhizzer media has an effect on cognitive abilities and computational thinking in learning.
