Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of digital educational game media with energy source material to improve students' reading comprehension skills. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) research with a Four-D (4-D) model, namely the define, design, develop, desseminate stage. The research design used one group pretest-postest design. The subjects of the study were 46 grade IV students from in Kudus Regency. Data collection techniques were carried out through material expert validation questionnaires, media expert validation, and 20 multiple-choice questions. The product developed has the theme of energy source material on earth which is packaged in the form of a guessing game. In addition to displaying materials, there is also an invitation to live an energy-efficient life. Digital game media is packaged in the form of applications that can be installed on adroid phones and iOS. The display of game media is designed as attractive as possible with a harmonious selection of images, colors and writing so that it can increase interest in learning, especially in reading skills. To measure reading comprehension skills seen from the acquisition of student learning outcomes. The data from validation by material experts obtained a percentage of 95% and media experts of 94.4% so that digital educational game media was declared valid and suitable for use in learning. The effectiveness of game media is determined based on the results of classical completeness and N-gain. The classical completeness of student learning outcomes after using game media in the learning process is 89%, which means classically complete. The N-gain test was obtained at 0.43 with moderate criteria, meaning that the media effectively improved reading comprehension skills seen from the acquisition of student learning outcomes. The conclusion of this study is that digital educational game media is very valid and feasible to be used as teaching material in learning to effectively improve reading comprehension skills through student learning outcomes.
