Abstract
Skills social are an something important thing to be developed in learning, especially social studies learning. Teacher have role important in the development of students’ social skill while at school. The purpose of this study is to explain (1) the understanding of social studies teachers about social skill that can be developed through social studies learning; (2) the creativity of social studies teachers in designing lessons for the development of students' social skills at the state junior high school 2 Tunjungan; and (3) how social studies teachers develop students’ social skill at the state junior high school 2 Tunjungan. This research method is qualitative research. The main data sources are obtained from informants and supporting data sources are observations and documents. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. Test the validity of the data using triangulation methods and analyzed qualitatively interactively including data collection; data reduction; data presentation; and draw conclusions or verification. The results of this study explain that (1) IPS teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Tunjungan understand social skills which can be seen from the way the teacher explains social skills and in understanding the goals of social studies which are suitable for the development of social skills. (2) the social studies teacher's efforts in designing learning begin with the teacher's observation of class conditions and students' behavior to adapt the learning methods to be used in the development of social skills. (3) how social studies teachers develop students' social skills by using the discussion and question-and-answer learning method and doing good habits that are carried out by the teacher for students to see so they can be emulated. Advice that can be given is that social studies teachers need to increase knowledge in accordance with the times to develop learning methods that are varied and in accordance with efforts to develop students' social skills
