Abstract

This research is experiment research which aims to know the mathematical communication ability of students between model expository class and FSLC with contextual approach class. This research were done in 3 meetings in which 2 meetings for learning process and 1 meeting for evaluation. The instruments that were used are test to measure mathematical communication ability, observation of students’ activity using cooperative learning of FSLC type with contextual approach, and documentation. The result of test was analyzed quantitatively which was reinforced by the observation result and documentation. Based on the result of normality and homogenity test of the two groups, it showed that both groups were normal and homogeny. Therefore, hypotheses test can use t test. From count result, it was obtained that tcount=2,95 and ttable=1,69. Since tcount>ttable, Ho was refused. Thus, the mathematical communication ability of the students in experiment class is more than that of in control class. Thus, learning using cooperative learning of FSLC type with contextual approach is more effective than expository learning.
