Abstract

Optimal learning outcomes can be supported by the presence of contextual teaching materials. Based on the interview with the Biology teacher at Senior High School 8 Semarang, 20% of students still have not completed the evaluation of the excretory system material. The use of research-based teaching supplements has also never been applied to excretory system learning at Senior High School 8 Semarang. Excretory system material contained in KD 3.9 and 4.9, one of them discusses disorders of the organs of the excretory system. Kidneys, which are organs of the excretory system, can be seriously affected by exposure to cigarette smoke. Based on the interviews, it was found that some students have smoked. This phenomenon illustrates the low awareness of teenagers about the dangers of smoking for health, so it is necessary to increase their caring attitude, such as through learning assistance in the school environment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of implementing research-based excretory system teaching supplements to improve learning outcomes and caring attitudes toward the dangers of smoking in high school students. This type of research is pre experimental with Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 2 classes, there are XI MIPA 1 and XI MIPA 2 which were taken by purposive sampling technique. The independent variable in this study is research-based excretory system teaching supplements, the dependent variable is learning outcomes and caring attitudes towards the dangers of smoking, and the control variables are teachers, lesson hours, and learning models. The data in this study are divided into main data and supporting data. The main data in this study are students' cognitive learning outcomes and caring attitudes towards the dangers of smoking, while the supporting data are material validity, teacher responses, and student responses to teaching supplements. Analysis of the data to determine the increase in the value of learning outcomes caring attitudes towards the dangers of smoking used the N-Gain test. Analysis of the N-Gain value of learning outcomes obtained a score 0.786384977 (high category), and caring attitudes toward the dangers of smoking gets a score 0.617940883 (medium category). Analysis of the validity of the teaching supplement material reached 93.3% (very valid). In the analysis of teacher and student responses get 90% and 88.17% which are categorized as very feasible. Based on the results and analysis data, it can be concluded that the excretory system teaching supplement based on "black garlic extract on the kidneys of rats exposed to cigarette smoke" can improve learning outcomes and caring attitudes toward the dangers of smoking in high school students.
