Abstract

Used lubricant is a category of B3 waste (hazardous and toxic materials) that we often encounter in the surrounding environment, especially in workshops. Meanwhile, bagasse and sawdust are also wastes that have not been utilized optimally. This study aims to determine the absorption of sugarcane bagasse and sawdust adsorbents on waste lubricants and used lubricants that are polluted in water. The adsorbent was made by drying wood sawdust and adsorbent bagasse, pulverizing it, then sifting it with a size of 1-3 mm, then reducing the water content by means of an oven at 110oC for 1 hour. The adsorbent was put into a cloth bag that was lined with a volume percentage of bagasse with wood sawdust, namely 25%: 75%, 50%: 50%, and 75%: 25%. Adsorption is done by inserting the adsorbent into the adsorbate with a variation of 15 minutes and 30 minutes. The results obtained that the adsorbent with the composition of bagasse and sawdust 75%: 25% for 30 minutes had the highest adsorption power of 4.67 g/g on used lubricant. Meanwhile, the highest adsorption capacity for used lubricants in water occurred in the adsorbent with a volume composition of 25%: 75% sugarcane bagasse and wood sawdust with a contact time of 15 minutes having an adsorption power of 1.33 g/g.
