Abstract

According to data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Data Survey (IDHS), the macrosomia rate is still fluctuating from 2002-2017. In 2002, there were 4.35% of infants born with macrosomia and 1.55% of these infants died. In the 2012 IDHS, 4.41% were macrosomic infants with 2.69% mortality, while in 2017 IDHS data showed that the proportion of macrosomia had decreased but the mortality rate increased. The purpose of this study was to determine the determinants of the incidence of macrosomia by analyzing the 2012 and 2017 IDHS data. This type of research is analytic observational with a cross sectional design by taking secondary data from the 2012 and 2017 IDHS which were analyzed separately and combined, so that there were three groups of data. The number of samples used was 17,412 samples with exclusion and inclusion techniques. The instrument used was a population interview questionnaire from IDHS data. Data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate, and multivariate using Chi Square test. The results of the three data groups showed that the sex of the baby, the area of residence, the Javanese/non-Javanese region, and economic status had a significant relationship with the incidence of macrosomia.Variables of twin pregnancy, pregnancy desire status, consumption of blood supplement tablets, maternal age, marital status, mother's education, mother's occupation and sanitation status were not related to the incidence of macrosomia. The suggestion of this research is that further research is needed that involves the influence of Javanese and non-Javanese culture on the incidence of macrosomia.
