Abstract

The background of this research is the author's concern about the emergence of a split between the Javanese and Sundanese tribes in Pangebatan Village because the two tribes live in one village with two different regional languages. Problems will arise when the two tribes establish social interaction. This has inspired researchers to examine how the interactions carried out by the community in one village use different languages, namely Javanese and Sundanese. The purpose of this research is to know the form of social interaction and to know the factors that influence social interaction. The research method in this research is qualitative. The research location is in Pangebatan Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency. The research subjects are Javanese and Sundanese. Data collection techniques using observation and interviews. Data validity using source triangulation. Data analysis includes data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results of the research on the social interaction of the Javanese and Sundanese in Pangebatan Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency. It can be concluded as follows: (1) The form of social interaction between the Javanese and Sundanese in Pangebatan Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency is divided into associative and dissociative forms. Associative forms of social interaction include cooperation, accommodation, and assimilation. The form of dissociative interaction is competition. (2) Factors that influence the occurrence of social interaction between Javanese and Sundanese in Pangebatan Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency, namely the existence of religious activities, the feeling of one village that has been going on for a long time, and the goals of each individual Javanese and ethnic group. Sunda. Suggestions that the author can recommend in this study are for Pangebatan Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency should be able to create a forum that aims to preserve the culture that exists in the Javanese and Sundanese tribes and make activities that aim to preserve Javanese and Sundanese culture.
