Abstract

The area of agricultural land is decreasing, including dry land. The objectives of this research are: to identify the area of dry land use in 2010, 2015, and 2020; (2) describe how farmers cultivate dry land; (3) analyze the relationship between changes in the use of dry land to the way farmers cultivate dry land. The study was conducted in Gunungpati District by using a population of upland land use covering an area of 1476.64 Ha and the number of farmers as many as 13,848 people. Determination of upland land use sampling using the Sampling Area in the form of dry land area which experienced changes in its area from 2015 to 2020 covering an area of 1457 Ha and Purposive Sampling the number of farmers using 1% of the total farmers whose sample amounted to 143 people. The research variables include changes in the use of dry land, the way farmers cultivate dry land, and the relationship between changes in dry land and the way farmers cultivate dry land. Data collection includes observation, interviews using questionnaires, and documentation studies. Analysis of data on changes in dry land use and the way farmers cultivate dry land using descriptive. Cross tabulation analysis to determine the relationship between changes in dry land and the way farmers cultivate the fields. The results of the study indicate that the use of dry land has changed over the last 10 years. In 2010 dry land occupied 25% land area. There was an increase in 2015 to 26%. The decrease in the area of dry land in 2020 to 24%. Tillage land cultivation is carried out by 86% of farmers by using traditional tools such as hoes. The fertilizers used by 33% of farmers are NPK and manure. Pesticide Alvisida was used 37% to repel pests on corn and peanut plants. The relationship between changes in dry land and the way farmers cultivate dry land occurs in the consideration of farmers choosing plant types, planting frequency, and expansion of dry fields. The conclusion of the study shows that changes in the area of dry land have increased in 2015 and decreased in 2020. Suggestions that can be made to dry land farmers are expected to do intercropping or crop diversification.
