Abstract

Erosion causes soil damage in upland vegetable cultivation areas. The purpose of this research; (1) identify the application of vegetative method of soil conservation techniques on upland vegetable cultivation land; (2) analyzing the factors behind the application of the vegetative method of soil conservation techniques on upland vegetable cultivation land; (3) knowing the impact of applying the vegetative method of soil conservation techniques on the production of vegetable cultivation. The research was carried out in Argamukti Village, Argapura District, Majalengka Regency using a population of farmers working on vegetable cultivation land. Determination of sampling using purposive sampling method aimed at farmers who apply the vegetative method of soil conservation and area sampling to identify the application of vegetative soil conservation methods spread over five hamlets. The variables of this research are the type of vegetative method, the causes of application which include erosion, weather and economy as well as production yields which consist of the length of the planting period and the amount of production. Data collection techniques using the method of observation, interviews and documentation studies. Data analysis using descriptive analysis is used to identify the application of vegetative soil conservation techniques, the background and impact of its application. Soil conservation techniques using vegetative methods found in vegetable cultivation in Argamukti Village are strip planting, successive planting, mulch use and alley farming. The background of farmers applying vegetative soil conservation techniques due to erosion, weather, pests and economic factors. The results of vegetable production grown on land using the vegetative method of soil conservation can show positive results, it can be observed from the length of the planting period which can be shorter and the amount of cultivation production is greater. The conclusion of this study is that most of the vegetable cultivation farmers in Argamukti Village have applied the vegetative method of soil conservation techniques that have an impact on the results of cultivation production. The advice given is that farmers should be wiser in managing land that is on steep slopes, by adjusting the planting method according to soil conservation rules.
