Abstract
The patriarchal system is a problem that always exists in every society, and it has a significant impact on how people see the image of women. The purpose aims to explore how a woman struggles for her identity in Rita Mae Brown's novel entitled Rubyfruit Jungle. The researcher believes this novel reveals the image of the independent woman fighting against the patriarchal society to get her own identity. This research used the qualitative method by employing a feminist approach, especially radical feminism. By using this approach, the researcher focused on the woman's experiences as the main character in building her identity. The study shows that the main character performs a presentation of a radical feminist woman who explores her identity by performing drastic decisions such as resisting the marriage concept in her life. This research indicates that the novel promotes woman’s struggle on against the patriarchal system. It is depicted by how the woman main character faced conflicts with her own characteristics. However, this novel also shows that the patriarchal system will always exist even after all the woman character has done.
