Abstract

Human needs have stages that contain different specialties in each stage. Each stage must be fulfilled as needed; otherwise, there will be inequality in the fulfillment process called metapathology. Therefore, they could encounter such uncomfortable things. Furthermore, it could impact the human's psychological aspects. Those impacts are portrayed in the character of Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why novel. This study aims to explain about 1) what the needs that unfulfilled as portrayed in the main character of Thirteen Reasons Why, 2) what are the impacts of the unfulfilled needs as reflected in the main character of the novel, and 3) what the solutions offered by Thirteen Reasons Why. The researcher applies the descriptive qualitative method to this study. Furthermore, the researcher uses the Hierarchy of Needs by Abraham Maslow, and New Criticism approach to analyze the data. The findings of this study are as follows: the unfulfilled needs of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs correlate with psychological aspects, as portrayed in Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why. The findings of this study are as follows: the unfulfilled needs of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs correlate with psychological aspects It can be concluded that every human being must fulfill Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Each stage has its portion and is related to each other. If one of these needs is not fulfilled properly, it will result in human psychological aspects. This condition happens because of an imbalance between the necessary needs and human efforts to fulfill them
