Abstract

Video is a media to share and get information. Using videos for learning listening will be fun and will not be boring, this becomes a special attraction to increase students' concentration. This topic was chosen because vlog in YouTube is new trend and widely watched among students. This study aimed to know how to implement the YouTube vlog in teaching listening for high school and test how effective is it. This study was only conducted on the tenth grade of SMAN 3 Temanggung in the academic year 2021/2022. This research used quantitative approach and quasi-experimental design, data from this study were collected through using pre-test and post�test. This research was done in the classroom. 59 students in two classes were taken as the research sample. The study's findings revealed that YouTube vlog is an ineffective media to teach and learn listening for high school students. It can be proven by the result of the mean score of the pre-test is 75.61, while the post-test group is 79.48 and the Z-score is below 1.96 (1.384) value of significance. It means the use of this media is not an effective media to improve student’s listening skill. Even though students admitted that learning listening with this media is fun. YouTube vlog is not an effective media to teach and learn listening for high school students. This study is expected to add insight to the use of YouTube vlog as a media to teach English, especially with better implementation to increase students’ listening skill
