Abstract

It is undeniable that times are increasingly advanced, teachers and students are required to use online media in the teaching and learning process. One of them is a digital platform called Vocapp English Flashcards application. This platform can be used to learn to master vocabulary in all languages. This research was conducted to: (1) find the vocabulary ability of students before and after using the Vocapp English Flashcards Application and (2) investigate whether teaching vocabulary through the use Vocapp English Flashcards application is effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This study employed a quasi-experimental approach and was performed across five meetings. Try-out, pretest, treatment, and posttest were carried out in the experimental and control groups. This study's population consisted of students from class X SMAN 1 Grobogan. Pre-test and post-test equipment are used to collect the data. It can be seen from the results of the pre-test and post-test scores of 35 students, the lowest score is 40 and the highest is 76 with an average score of 54.62. The pre-test standard deviation was 10.079, whereas the post-test standard deviation was 11.461. The pre-test std.error was 1.7037, whereas the post-test standard deviation was 1.9373. The result also showed that the Independent Samples T-test findings, the tcount was 3.165 and the df (degree of freedom) was 68. According to the significancy table, the value of tt is 1.995. Depending on the results of the Independent Samples T-Test, the researcher concluded that Application was more effective rather than the conventional method because the ttable (3.165 > 1.995), and the value of Sig. was lower than 0.05 (0.002 < 0.05). So, it is concluded that the Vocapp English Flashcard application can be used for the teaching and learning process both from the teacher's and students' in improving students' vocabulary. For further research, it is hoped that this research can be an inspiration and be developed for further research.
