Abstract

This study aimed to find out: (1) The speaking skill of some Indonesian students on Hallo: Let’s Speak English application (2) Inhibiting factors in speaking faced by some Indonesian students on Hallo: Let’s Speak English application. The research report was described using a descriptive qualitative method based on facts and events during the research. The results of this study were the results of speaking test and the results of questionnaire. The findings showed that the average of speaking skill of the Indonesian students who still study in university on Hallo application was in a good level. The mean of the score was 80 which based on Harris, as cited in Khalidah et al, the range of data from 61-80 was categorized in a good level. The average score of each aspect of speaking; pronunciation aspect was 80, grammar aspect was 80, vocabulary aspect was 76, fluency aspect was 74, comprehension aspect was 90. Based on the percentage of students’ speaking skill, it showed that none of the students was in poor and very poor level, 12 (60%) students were in good level, 7 (35%) students were in excellent level, then 1 (5%) was in mediocre level. In addition, there were only 4 inhibiting factors classified by Mohseni and Ameri as cited in Humaera that faced by students. Based on the findings, some Indonesian students’ speaking skill was in good level. Furthermore, there are grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and lack of motivation that still became inhibit factors for the students.
