Abstract
Since the Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic, many teachers are required to implement online media in distance learning. One of them is a digital gamification platform called Quizizz. The platform can be used in the learning process of all subjects, including English. In learning English, there are still many students who have difficulty in tenses grammar material. Therefore, this research was conducted to : (1) find the effectiveness of Quizizz platform to improve English tenses mastery for twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 SEMARANG and (2) describe the challenges and supports of using Quizizz platform in improving English Tenses for twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 SEMARANG. In order to answer these questions, this mixed study was conducted pre-test and post-test as well as distributed questionnaires. A total of 35 twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 Semarang were selected as research participants. The findings found out that : (1) on the quantitative result, the Wilcoxon test shows that Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) has a value of 0.011. That means the Asymp value. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.011 < 0.05 and can be concluded that there is a significant increase in the pre-test and post-test scores of English tenses: present and past tense of the twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 Semarang by using the Quizizz platforms. (2) the qualitative results show that the challenges faced by students are internet signals, timer in answering questions, and the appearance of advertisements during the learning process, while the supports are the attractive appearance of Quizizz, the gaming vibe, good and complete learning materials, the background music, and the easy and free access. Therefore, the qualitative results support the quantitative results which show a significant increase in the use of the Quizizz platform for students' English tenses mastery
