Abstract
This study aims to determine students' perspectives on the application of learning using the role-playing method in online English-speaking classes. The subjects of this study were students of class XI SMA Muhammadiyah Purwodadi, which consisted of 59 students and divided into two classes, namely XI MIPA 3 and XI MIPA 4. This research was a perceptional survey study. It focuses on students' opinions and impressions about role-playing, in addition to knowing how role-playing can affect interest, motivation, and several other aspects such as students' speaking skills. The research was carried out using several research instruments, such as questionnaires, observations, and interviews. Then, the data were analyzed descriptively. Meanwhile, the results show that learning with the role-play method is considered capable of giving positive impressions and experiences to students. Students claimed to be interested and enjoyed speaking classes using the role-play method online. It turns out that role-playing has a good impact on students. It can stimulate students to practice speaking confidently, enthusiastically, and creatively. Along with that, their motivation also increases. Thus, the students participate well in learning activities
