Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the classroom learning and teaching behavior including English language classroom learning. Both teachers and students are forced to adapt to online learning in order to keep the learning and teaching activity runs. Yet, the students’ comprehension cannot be measured properly. The aims of this study are to investigate the factors affecting students’ interest in learning English and the factors why such factors appear. The participants of this study are the eleventh grader of SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran. The writer chose SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran because it is the first school in Ungaran that used web-learning and blended learning (online and offline) during the pandemic. The main instrument used by the writer in this study are observation to observe the phenomenon appear in classroom, questionnaire to investigate the factors affecting such phenomenon, and interview guidelines to get deeper understanding on why such factors appear. The data was gathered using Google form and WhatsApp voice call. The outcome of this study explains the factors affecting students’ interest in learning English during pandemic situation and the reasons why such factors appear. The factors appear in the conduct of this study are; motivation, attention, attitude, study habit, self-concept, students’ aptitude, and teaching media
