Abstract

The Geography Education study program at Semarang State University (UNNES) has the responsibility to produce good graduates who will be ready to enter as geography teachers. The ideal geography teacher must master four standards of teacher competence, namely: pedagogikal, professional, personal, and social competencies. However, in its development, UNNES geography teacher candidates feel that there are still shortcomings in mastering the four competency standards as teachers. So there needs to be an improvement in each competency of prospective teachers, so that after graduation, they will be ready to become teachers. This study aims to analyze the level of competence and readiness in prospective geography teachers and analyze the influence of the level of competence on the readiness of prospective geography teachers of UNNES. This research is a quantitative study with free variables are the level of competence of prospective teachers and the bound variable is the level of readiness of prospective geography teachers of UNNES. The sampling technique used is a stratified random sampling technique in students of the UNNES Geography Education study program class of 2017 and 2018 who have implemented the Practice Field Experience (PPL) with the number of samples was 100 respondents. The data analysis used consists of descriptive percentages and simple linear regression analysis. The results of this study show that the level of competence of prospective geography teachers at Semarang State University is 76.33% and is in the "High" category, as well as the level of readiness of prospective geography teachers at Semarang State University is 78.78% and is in the "Ready" category. Then, this study shows a significant influence of the level of competence on the level of readiness of prospective geography teachers at Semarang State University. Judging from the test, the correlation coefficient (R) got a value of 0.770 and was on the "Strong" category. The results of the coefficient of determination (R2/Rsquare) value showed that the percentage of contribution of the level of competence to the readiness of prospective Geography teachers was 59.9%, while the remaining 40.1% was influenced by variables outside this study. Researchers submit suggestions to prospective teachers, it is hoped that they can be motivated more actively to improve self-quality, especially in pedagogik and professional competencies to improve the readiness of prospective teachers. carrying out his duties as a teacher later. Researchers' suggestions to future research, to produce better findings in the study of the competence of prospective teachers, need to include determinant variables for readiness to become teachers more so that produce more quality findings.
