Abstract

This study is to find out the subtitling strategies used by Pein Akatsuki and Lebah Ganteng in subtitling Bohemian Rhapsody movie into Indonesian. Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies was used as reference in this study. This research was using descriptive qualitative to describe the result. The data on this research was the original English dialogue and two Indonesian subtitles by Pein Akatsuki and Lebah Ganteng. The result of the study was there are 7 out of 10 strategies found in two Indonesian subtitles of Bohemian Rhapsody movie. They are Paraphrase, Transfer, Decimation, Transcription, Imitation, Condensation, and Deletion. The research findings reveals the similarities between Pein Akatsuki and Lebah Ganteng are: first, the major strategies used by both subtitlers are the same that is Paraphrase, Transfer, and Imitation. Second, Decimation was the least strategies used by the two subtitlers. Third, both Pein Akatsuki and Lebah Ganteng did not used Expansion, Dislocation and Resignation. A significant different between the Pein Akatsuki and Lebah Ganteng was found in the use of Condensation and Deletion strategy. Lebah Ganteng used Condensation and Deletion strategy more often than Pein Akatsuki.
