Abstract

Since the Dutch colonial period, Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA) have developed in Indonesia. In 1910 there were 40 private tea plantations using hydropower for their production. Then during the New Order era, its development grew more rapidly because of the Five Year Development Program (Pelita) III. The program aims to distribute electricity in remote areas on the island of Java. Because at that time the island of Java had the highest population density. So that the need for electricity is also getting bigger every year, but on the other hand, the supply of electricity generation is still minimal. At that time, in the electricity sector, Central Java Province was still lagging behind West Java and East Java. With the main objective to support electricity needs in Java, the Mrica hydropower plant was built in Banjarnegara Regency. Mrica hydropower has other functions as a source of irrigation, flood control, and a tourist attraction. As for what was studied (1) Knowing the construction of the Mrica hydropower plant in Banjarnegara Regency, (2) Knowing the socio-economic impact for the people of Bawang Subdistrict, Banjarnegara Regency in 1982-1997. The method used is the historical method, (1) Heuristic data collection in the form of statistical data, newspapers, archives, and interviews, (2) Source Criticism, (3) Interpretation, and (4) Historiography. The findings show that the construction of the Mrica hydropower plant in Banjarnegara Regency started from the planning stage in 1971 to the construction stage in 1982-1989 which had experienced conflicts with the evicted community regarding compensation money. The conflict is one of the impacts caused by the construction of the Mrica hydropower plant.
