Abstract

Alip Ba Ta is one of the YouTube channels of Indonesian guitarists who are recently popular because of the various videos of his fingerstyle performances that are using unique guitar techniques. This study aimed to describe the guitar playing techniques used by Alip Ba Ta on the song of "Lingsir Wengi". This focus is used to limit the research problems and ease the assessment system in research. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method with a musicological approach. The subject of this study was the song of "Lingsir Wengi" that was uploaded on the Alip Ba Ta YouTube channel. The data collection technique used were observation technique, literature study, score analysis and interviews. The results showed that the song of "Lingsir Wengi" had the form of a three-part song A-A'-B-A 'with a total of 32 bars, and there were several techniques. The guitar playing techniques used in the Lingsir Wengi song included: (1) Alternate Tuning was an important technique especially before playing the song of “Lingsir Wengi”. It was necessary to change the tuning so that the guitar performance could hit the notes that were difficult to reach. (2) Harmonic, an artficial harmonic technique often appeared especially at the beginning of the song, and it was combined with turning the peg on the guitar. (3) Speed is a very important part while playing hammer on and pull off techniques, especially at 1/16 and 1/32 note values. (4) Power, this section requires strength to play the Mano Izquierda Sola technique where playing a series of notes only requires the left hand and does not involve the right hand.
