Abstract

In learning, improvement of learning processes and outcomes needs to be done. The Tangguh Human Society is a community that cares for mental health using learning activities to play angklung as a therapeutic medium for community members who have mental disorders, but in the angklung game the participants have not experienced an increase because they do not have knowledge in reading notation and have difficulty focusing in learning. Researchers used the Kodaly hand sign method to improve angklung playing skills because the Kodaly hand sign method uses body movements as tone symbols to help participants read notation and play songs. The formulation of the research problem is "Can the Kodaly hand sign method improve the learning outcomes of angklung training participants in the Paguyuban Manusia Tangguh Community?". The purpose of this study was to describe and improve the learning outcomes of trainees in playing angklung at the Paguyuban Manusia Tangguh Community in Jepara. The approach used in this research is experimental research with a research design of One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population in this study were 42 people, samples were taken using purvosive sampling technique, obtained as many as 12 people. 8 people with mental disorders, 1 specialist for mental disorders and 3 people with mental disorders. The samples taken are people with mental disorders in Controlled Recovery status. The instrument used is a practical test The value obtained after the study was 37.5 for the average pre-test score with the lowest score of 30 and the highest score of 51. While the average post-test score was 72.5, with the lowest score of 59 and the highest score of 83. After being tested t using a paired sample t test using the SPSS assistance program, the significance value shows a value of 0.00, <0.05 so that there is an increase in angklung playing skills in the Tangguh Human Association after being treated using the signature method. Although this research was conducted in the Paguyuban Manusia Tangguh community, most of the samples taken were people with mental disorders, but the results obtained if the Hand Sign Kodaly method was applied to non-psychiatrists were relatively the same because what was taken were people with mental disorders in controlled recovery status.
