Abstract

Racism is a discussion with no end, This laten problem is caused by society bias to understand the differences. This racism develops from traditional racism to structural racism. Traditional racism manifested in social life, we can see in a daily life. Discrimination base on color, economic and education. While structure racism manifested in legal base on goverment discrimination rules. The legal rules lead racism massively and organized. Even, the worst legal racism is in form of Genocide or extermination. Jews extermination in NAZI’S era was an example of structure racism. Thus, this study will explain the symbols of racism behaviours using Pierce’s semiotic theory. The purpose of this study is to gives understanding on how to identify racism behaviours. By this study the researcher find that there are five symbols of racism behaviours in The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Those five are discrimination, violance, conflict, prejudice an separation. Further, this racist behaviours affect the main characters anti racism in in society, those characters are Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. The researcher hope that by understanding the symbols of racism behaviours, society become more aware toward act of racism in their surrounding.
