Abstract

Racism is a mystery that has not been solved during the change of civilization. The culture of racism has been brought in by human nature for a long time. Discussing racism, it is closely related to American society that is identical to the dominant Caucasoid race or what people are commonly known as the white race. In this article, the writer tries to reveal the rampant racist attitudes and racial discrimination that occur in the law of the United States. This is of course has been recognized since a long time ago by the US population itself and reaps the pros and cons. In connection with that, each individual in the US as a collective subject must have a social background that is closely related to issues of racism that are familiar to them. Based on this assumption, the writer analyzed how racism happens in the world of the law of the US and explained the world vision of the author that underlies the writing of The Confession novel using textual analysis. Because the writer discusses the phenomenon of racism which then creates the author's world vision in writing literary works, Lucien Goldmann's Genetic Structuralism is used. Then to describe racial discrimination that occurs in US society especially in Texas, the author uses binary opposition to reveal the differences between white and black races because of the existence of white supremacy. This study shows the existence of racial discrimination that often occurs in the Texas legal system based on the author's world vision as a collective subject of US society itself. The white race tends to be privileged, prioritized, defended, and protected while the black race tends to be degraded, marginalized, and often victimized by the cruelty of the legal system in America.
