Abstract

This research aims to analyze personality development that reflected in the novel entitled This is Where the World Ends by Amy Zhang. This study consisted of three objectives. The first one is to observe how does the character of Janie portrayed as main role. The next one is to discover how Janie deals with her internal conflict. The last one is to understand the impacts of personality development in Jannie. The analysis of this study is using Allport Gordon personality development theory. Based on Allport's Theory, there are three traits: Cardinal traits: Allport suggested that cardinal traits are rare, and dominate, usually developing later in life. Central traits: These general characteristics form basic personality foundations. Secondary traits: Secondary traits are sometimes related to attitudes or preferences. The result provided two personalities of the main role. In a moment, she is the kind and smart Jannie, however she can also turn into manipulative and cruel Jannie. The development of the personality caused bad impacts to her. The personality development ruins her life because her idea about do bad things to drown out his jealousy even for those who love her. Without showing jealousy and manipulating circumstances as if Jannie is someone who cares and has the same feelings for people who love her. These impacts assert that controlling identity causes a chaotic life psychologically and physically.
