Abstract

During this pandemic, teachers are required to be able to deliver material from home and in a shorter time than usual. This causes many teachers need to find the best way so that learning objectives can be achieved as it should. Learning activities can be supported by the use of technology which can provide a very broad scale to explore material for learning. Many websites, applications, and other digital platforms are packaged as attractive as possible and make learning interesting and fun for students, one of which is Quizizz. Quizizz can be defined as a fun and excellent online assessment platform that can be used in the learning process to assess the students’ understanding of the material. This study was conducted to determine the English teachers’ and students’ perception of using Quizizz in the online class at SMPN 12 Semarang. This qualitative study involved 4 English teachers and 31 students of class VIII A at SMPN 12 Semarang. The data were collected by using questionnaires and interviews. There are 10 statements in the teachers’ questionnaire and 20 statements in the students’ questionnaire. The reasercher used the four-choices Likert scale, namely ‘strongly agree’ (SA), ‘agree’ (A), ‘disagree’ (D), and ‘strongly disagree’ (SD). Moreover, the interview was conducted by Whatsapp call to gather additional information about the students’ experiences, views, and beliefs related to this study. From the study conducted, the researcher found that both students and English teachers at SMPN 12 Semarang have positive perceptions through Quizizz applied in online class. The teachers believed that they like to use Quizizz because it can provide many benefits in the online learning process, such as creating a relaxed atmosphere in the English online class. In addition, the students said that they like Quizizz to be used in English online class because it is fun and able to get rid of boredom in the online class.
