Abstract

This study proposed to examine the quality of the English final semester test in the Seventh Graders based on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy. This study aimed to determine the cognitive level of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy domains on 45 test items for the first semester of seventh grade at SMPN 26 Semarang in the academic year 2019/2020.This research is involved in qualitative research, which is presented in descriptive. The researcher decided on data from the first-semester English questions created by the education unit, tested at SMPN 26 Semarang. The test items consist of 40 multiple choices, and five short answers were analyzed into four details: (1) competence, (2) question, (3) language skill, and (4) level of the cognitive domain. The researcher presents the results in a qualitative description. The test does not cover the six cognitive domain levels in Bloom's Revised Taxonomy based on the analysis results. The four levels are Remembering, understanding, applying, and analyzing. Understanding enhances a more prevalent cognitive level. Out of 45 questions, five items (11%) belong to remembering level, 17 (38%) are understanding level, 14 (31%) is applying level, 9 (20%) belong to analyzing level while evaluating the level and creating level has no followers.The researcher proposes that the test constructs the cognitive level of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy to enhance students' critical thinking.
