Abstract

This research focuses on the teacher’s and the students' perceptions on the use of Mind Mapping in writing narrative text in SMA PL Don Bosko Semarang. This research aimed to identify the teacher and the tenth grade students’ perceptions toward the use of Mind Mapping technique in the teaching and learning writing of narrative text, and to find out the benefit of using Mind Mapping technique in teaching and learning writing of narrative text. The subject of this research were an English teacher and 36 students from X science 1 SMA PL Don Bosko Semarang. This research was descriptive qualitative. The instruments used in this research were observation sheet, questionnaire, and interview. The observation was done using Google Meet, while 14 questions were shared to the 36 students through Google Forms, and 4 interview questions were shared to the 13 interviewees through Whatsapp application. The first finding of this research revealed that the English teacher and majority of the students have positive perceptions on the use of Mind Mapping in writing narrative text. The second finding revealed that Mind Mapping technique is helpful for writing narrative text. In summary, Mind Mapping can help the respondents to organize their ideas, develop their creativity, and improve their writing ability. In conclusion, the use of Mind mapping in writing narrative text has positive perceptions, and it is also valuable for the teaching and learning process.
