Abstract

Subtitle holds an important role, good accuracy in subtitle is necessary in order to deliver the value of the content. Based on that, the researcher decided to find the accuracy of sentences level in English-Indonesia subtitle of ‘The End of the F***ing World – Season 2’. The researcher will use the data which is the subtitle from Netflix by watching the series in English and Indonesian subtitle. Then, these subtitle were categorized into 4 types of sentences: (1) simple sentence, (2) compound sentence, (3) complex sentence, (4) compound-complex sentence. After that, the researcher will have analyzed its accuracy using accuracy rating instruments by Nababan, his instruments in translation will be used to find the accuracy of the subtitle and it will be divided into three categories: accurate, less accurate, and inaccurate. The researcher collected the data by watching the series in English and Indonesian subtitle, then these subtitle were categorized into those 4 types of sentences. After collecting the data, the researcher found 579 sentences: 461 data of simple sentences, 67 data of compound sentences, 43 data of complex sentences and 8 data of compound-complex sentences. Based on accuracy assessment from Nababan, the researcher concludes that the subtitle is accurate, but the researcher still found some mistakes that are considered as major ones because these might cause ambiguity or misunderstanding to audiences, that’s why we – as the audiences – also need to be more careful in reading some subtitle.
