Abstract

Economic growth is a parameter or measuring tool in the economic analysis of a country every year by looking at the production activities of both goods and services from year to year. ASEAN is an organization of 10 countries in Southeast Asia, this study uses 4 ASEAN countries that have fluctuating economic growth and tend to decline from 2010-2019. Thisstudy aims to analyze the factors that influence economic growth in 4 ASEAN countries. The type of data used in this research is secondary data. The research method used is panel data regression with a time series of 2010-2019 and cross section data from 4 countries, consisting Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. The dependent variable used in this study is economic growth. The independent variables used in this study were exports, imports, literacy rates, life expectancy at birth and tourist visits. The results of this study indicate that exports have a negative and insignificant effect on economic growth, imports have a positive and significant effect on economic growth, literacy rates have a negative and significant effect on economic growth, life expectancy at birth has a negative and significant effect on economic growth and tourist visit have a negative and insignificant effect on economic growth. Based on the results of the study, the researcher gives the following suggestions: the governments in the 4 ASEAN countries should pay attention to other export commodities so as to provide other alternatives and more benefits and also improve the quality of exports in each country. The government must increasing imports of raw materials for product processing so that they can be reprocessed and sold to the public and other country. Every country must improve and pay attention to the quality of education in that country. Then pay attention to and improve the quality of health services for all levels of the population. Governments in the 4 ASEAN countries must improve tourism facilities and infrastructure and the society participates in providing services and has good ethics to visiting tourists.
