Abstract

China is the world‘s third-biggest nation by region and has the biggest population. Chinese diaspora are known as overseas Chinese. Chauvinism is an excessive attitude, behavior or action, even willing to sacrifice for what they think or even sacrifice their lives. In other words, chauvinism is extreme fanaticism (Cleemput & Nieli. 1995). Bourgeoisie is a social class of people characterized by capital ownership and related to their ownership is part of the upper middle class. This research is focused on chauvinism ideology especially ethnic chauvinism among chinesse bourgeoisie. The problems examined in this study are:(1)What ethnic chauvinism stereotypes do the characters perform in the novel Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan? (2)How do humans tend to be chauvinistic when they are materially wealthy as described in the novel Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan?. The purposes of this research are:(1)To analyze what ethnic stereotypes the characters perform. (2)To analyze how humans tend to be chauvinistic when they are materially wealthy. This research uses qualitative methods. In analyzing data, researcher used sociology of literature approach. Ethnic Chauvinism especially human ethnic chauvinism also fulfils the concepts and logical principles of research. Geert Van Cleambil and Russell Nieli (1995, P.64) has stated that ethnic chauvinism is the state of mind of a person who considers his or her people or nation to be of superior worth compared to other peoples. The general public's stereotypes of chauvinists are much more likely to react to violence. The prejudices that the general public has about chauvinists are much more likely to contribute to poor things and other negative outcomes.
