Abstract

Gunungpati Primary Healthcare Center is one of the healthcare centers in the city of Semarang. One of the major maternal and child health problems in the area of Gunungpati Primary Healthcare Center is chronic energy deficiency (CED) in pregnant women. Based on data from the Gunungpati Primary Healthcare Center in 2018 there were 194 pregnant women and 90 pregnant women or around 46% of them experienced chronic energy deficiency (CED). In 2019 there were 174 pregnant women and 108 pregnant women or around 62% experienced CED. Whereas in 2020 there were 74 pregnant women with CED out of a total of 112 pregnant women (66%). The aim of this research was to determine the factors associated with chronic energy deficiency (CED) among pregnant women. This type of research is observational analytic with case-control design. The sample was set at 35 cases and 35 controls with purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using chi-square test with SPSS version 16.0. Results showed that nutritional status before pregnant (OR=57.30; 95% CI=7.02-471.50; p-value=<0.001), comorbidities (OR=6.60; 95% CI=1.32-32.84; pvalue=0.01), unplanned pregnancy (OR=3.06; 95% CI=1.12-8.37; p-value=0.02), occupational status when pregnant (OR=2.87; 95% CI=1.10-7.59; p-value=0.03), and family income (OR=2.84; 95% CI=1.10-7.97; p-value=0.04) were associated with CED in pregnant women in the area of Gunungpati Primary Healthcare Center. This research recommendations are planning a pregnancy using the contraceptive method, visiting health facilities and regularly checking pregnancies, meet the varying macro and micro nutritional needs at each stage of pregnancy
