Abstract

This study deals with my final project that investigated the idiom receptive mastery of the sophomore students of the English Education Study Program Universitas Negeri Semarang. A Cross-sectional design was used in this study with a quantitative approach. The samples of this study were one international class and one regular class. This study was assessed by using a tried-out non-standardized cloze test containing four parts which each part had its function. The findings showed that the international class performed better in the idiom test. It can be seen from the means of 83 and 67.9 respectively with the highest score of 90 and 82.5 respectively, the lowest score of 67.5 and 52.5 respectively and standard deviation of 6.12 and 6.68 respectively. The score also showed that the international class were in the higher score classification than the regular class. The lowest score classification in the international class was still considered as the high classification in the regular class. From the findings, it can be concluded that Ha was accepted that the International class has better knowledge about idiom than the regular class. It proved that international class’ idiom receptive mastery is better than the regular class.
