Abstract

Teachers' perceptions are a perception or teacher’s opinion about anything. The topic of this study was the implementation of the 2013 curriculum. Especially discussed the implementation of the 2013 curriculum which is based on an approach of teaching and learning process named Genre-Based Approach. this study was conducted in SMP N 1 Toroh. The participants of this study were all of the English teachers in there. Through qualitative design, the data were collected by using observation, interview, document and documentation. The findings of this study were found that the knowledge of the English teachers was good, they already know and understand about the Genre-Based Approach. But they also still faced some difficulties in implemented it, based on the students, they still have low motivation in the teaching and learning process while they in the steps of ICOT (Independent Construction of the Text) in the Genre-Based Approach. When the students’ dealing with the text, from the structure and also the language features in the text, they also felt difficulty. It caused the students to still feel lazy to read the full text. So, they will less knowledge in understanding the text. Then, from the teachers’ perceptions, there are some factors which influence the teachers’ perceptions of the implementation of the 2013 curriculum based on the Genre-Based Approach, which includes the teachers’ personal experience and teachers' teaching training. However, the implementation of the 2013 curriculum based on the Genre-Based approach so important to the students in learning genres. But the teachers’ personal experience and teachers' teaching training also influence the teachers when teaching and learning process. Overall, the perceptions of the teachers almost the same, they have their methods to face the problems of their students.
