Abstract

This research is conducted to analyze the survival of the group-based characters portrayed in The Maze Runner novel. The objectives of this research are to explain how the survival group-based characters in an experiment to survive portrayed in The Maze Runner novel and to explain the extent of the life quality from group-based characters perceived from their job portrayed in the Novel. This research uses psychoanalysis from Sigmund Freud to answer the question about the survival and the extent of life quality of the group-based characters. To collect the data, the researcher uses the observation technique and reads some books, journals, and websites that related to the object. The research results in several findings as follows: 1) To still survive, the group-based characters must work together to still survive. The survival of the group-based characters is described by their ego, which is proven by their egos to reach it, and it is influenced by the superego. 2) The description of the extent of the life quality of group-based characters perceived from their job shows that all of the group-based characters do not have a good life. All of them must work together to still live in the Glade. Their extent of the life quality is not good enough because they have some internal or external problems that make their life worse in the Glade.
