Abstract

This study aimed to determine the quality of validity, reliability, item facility, item discrimination, and distractor effectiveness in English final test for twelfth-grade students at SMA N 1 Prambanan in the academic year of 2019/2020 based on the criteria of a good test. Descriptive quantitative approach with documentation method was used to obtain and analyze the test items. The English final test is a multiple-choice test with 50 items which consists of five options in each item. The analysis of the test items used Anates Program to explain the validity, reliability, item facility, item discrimination, and distractor effectiveness. The findings showed there were 24 invalid test items and reliable test items with a value of 0.74. The mean of the item facility is 0.71so it is classified as easy items. Furthermore, the mean of item discrimination is 0.25, it categorized as satisfactory items, and in the distractor effectiveness, there were 7 items (14%) as very effective distractors, 5 items (10%) as an effective distractor, 18 items (36%) as a less effective distractor, 13 items (26%) as ineffective distractor and 7 items (14%) as a dysfunctional distractor. According to the criteria of a good test, there were 5 items that can be used in the next test, 35 items that can be used in the next test but still need revisions, and there were 10 items which cannot fulfill the criteria of a good test. Based on the findings, it suggested that: (1) Invalid items and item facility with moderate category should be revised. (2) The satisfactory items should be revised. Meanwhile, the poor items and the negative item should be discarded. (3) The ineffective and the dysfunctional distractor must be discarded and should be improved. (4) Items which have been revised can be used in the next test since the items meet the criteria of a good test, it can be put into question bank and used again in the next test. Item that does not meet the criteria of a good test should be discarded
