Abstract

Heretofore, since the 2013 curriculum implementation, problems concerning assessment have been the main problems. The previous findings showed that the teachers of Primary Schools, JHS, or even SHS were not completely ready to understand the assessment in 2013 learning. Most teachers had difficulties in promoting class-leveled assessment. This lack of understanding about the authentic model caused Indonesian language teachers were not able to devise a plan and promote assessments on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects well. Therefore, there is a necessity of an authentic assessment model in Indonesian language learning. This research aims to (1) explain the characteristics of authentic assessment model necessity in Indonesian language learning; (2) explain the experts‟ and stakeholders’ validities toward the authentic assessment model in Indonesian language learning, (3) create an authentic assessment model in Indonesian language learning, and (4) examine the effectiveness of the authentic assessment model in Indonesian language learning. This is a Borgh& Gall modified research and development study. The research activities consisted of (1) initial investigation, focused on problem identification or analysis and Indonesian language learning assessment necessity, (2) designing and realization stages, focused on formulation process/model design arrangement based on the necessity analysis, and (3) the trial run stage and assessment in this stage is focused on product quality. The applied data analysis was done qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative analysis was done to analyze the results data of model validation conducted by the experts and practitioners. The quantitative analysis was done to find out the effectiveness of the authentic assessment model in Indonesian language learning empirically by using N-Gain and Wilcoxon tests. The findings showed that the authentic assessment model in Indonesian language learning could (1) improve the Indonesian language learning effectiveness and (2) improve the promotion and the effectiveness. They were proven as the learners‟ learning outcomes gained improvement either in cognitive and psychomotor aspects. Based on the Wilcoxon test by using SPSS 22, it obtains a . The score is lesser than 0.05 (<0.05). Thus, there is a ix significant difference between the pre-intervention and post-intervention with the applied authentic model. The results showed that authentic assessment in learning Indonesian language could improve the learning process and learning outcomes of the learners. The learning process improvement occurred because of the assessment. It was carried out the whole time of teaching-learning activities. Authentic assessment is more effective than the objective assessment. It is since authentic assessment could measure all competent aspects, started from affective, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects. Therefore, teachers should have skills to compose and promote various types of assessment based on the material and the learners' characteristics so that the learning outcome would be in line with the targeted materials in the core competence.
