Abstract

The shift in payment transactions towards a cashless society has become a trend, but in its development, the level of public trust in cash is still higher than that of cashless transactions. Various research results on the theme of cashless transaction behavior with the UTAUT model also show inconsistent research results. This study aims to examine the adoption behavior of cashless transactions which is influenced by performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, with trust and experience as moderating variables and behavioral intention as mediating variables. It is quantitative research. Data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed using SEM-PLS. The population of the study was 4,156 FE UNNES students with the target population were students who adopted the cashless transactions. The sampel size was 365 students determined using the Slovin formula with an error tolerance of 5%. Due to the unknown individual members of the target population, this study uses an accidental sampling technique with the criteria that the respondent has performed the cashless transaction. The results showed that from 17 proposed hypotheses, there are 5 (five) hypotheses that were rejected and 12 hypotheses were accepted. The four constructs (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions) influence the adoption behavior of cashless transactions. Facilitating conditions have the biggest effect for 0.211 or 21%. Furthermore, the intention to act as an intermediary makes the amount of influence on the adoption behavior of cashless transactions higher to 8.1%. Then, experience as a moderating variable strengthens only the variable effort expectancy and weakens the variable social influence and facilitating conditions. Furthermore, with trust, the effect of behavioral intention on the adoption behavior of cashless transactions increased from 35% to 39%. The magnitude of the R2 construct of cashless transaction intention is 0.439 (moderate or sufficient category) and the magnitude of the effect of the R2 construct on cashless transaction behavior is 0.676 (good category). Thus, it is concluded that 12 hypotheses are accepted, and 5 hypotheses are rejected. It is suggested to further researchers are expected to be able to analyze and examine other variables that can influence the adoption behavior of cashless transactions such as voluntariness in use, gender, or other variables.
