Abstract

Saving is an important thing in financial management. Saving also improves a country's economy because the savings are distributed into several sectors of the economy. For teenagers, saving can be used to learn selfmanagement, live frugally, prepare for unexpected circumstances, and be able to manage finances in the future. However, on the other hand, the people's saving behavior, especially teenagers, is still low. The purpose of this study were (1) to analyze the effect of financial literacy and parents' income on students' saving behavior, (2) to analyze the differences in the effect of financial literacy and parental income on students' saving behavior based on parents' education, (3) to analyze the differences in the effect of financial literacy and parents' income on students' saving behavior based on the school's status in SMA Kota Semarang. This study uses a quantitative approach. The population in this study were 538 students of class XI IPS SMA Semarang City who had a good category in the National Examination 2019. The process of choosing the sample of this study used purposive proportional random sampling with a total of 230 students. The technique of collecting data used questionnaire. The data analysis technique used descriptive and inferential. The result of this study concludes that there are several effects of financial literacy and parents' income on saving behavior. Also, this study reveals that there was no difference in the effect of financial literacy and parents' income on saving behavior based on parental education. In addition, the result of this study implies that there was no difference in the effect of financial literacy and parents' income on saving behavior based on school status.
