Abstract
The background of this research is the lack of the comprehension of Elementary Physical Education (PE) teachers in learning with integrative thematic approach. The importance of elementary PE teacher competence in learning with integrative thematic is very necessary, so that the learning process can be carried out according to the predetermined curriculum. Thus, this research aims to analyze the competency of PE teachers in learning with integrative thematic approach in Kesesi Subdistrict Pekalongan Regency, reviewed from pedagogic and professional competence. This research was conducted using qualitative. Data analysis was carried out using Purposive Sampling. The technique of data collection used observation to observe teachers’ actions, interview was used to collect information about teachers’ actions and to connect them with the observation data, and document studies was used to analyze the documents that the PE teachers had related to learning with integrative thematic approach, then the data was analyzed inductively using Miles and Huberman interactive cycle. The results show that for pedagogic competence, PE teachers were able to: 1) master the characteristics of students, 2) develop curriculum, 3) use information and communication technology for learning, and 4) implement and use assessment and evaluation of process and learning outcome in PE learning with integrative thematic approach. While for professional competence, PE teachers were able to: 1) master the materials, structures, concepts, and supporting scientific mindset, 2) master the competency standard and basic competency, and 3) develop learning materials creatively in implementing PE learning with integrative thematic approach. However, there were teachers who had difficulties in doing the activities due to inexperience in following Education and Training, so that they could’t adapt with integrative thematic approach. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the pedagogic and professional competence of elementary PE teachers in Kesesi Subdistrict Pekalongan Regency is fair in implementing learning with integrative thematic approach for they have implemented the existing competency indicators, however, there are some teachers who do not implemented it optimally. The researcher suggests that the Education Agency should intensively have Education and Training (Diklat) program. For the schools, they should have In House Training (IHT) program. For the teachers, they are expected to be able to increase their knowledge related to PE learning with integrative thematic approach for elementary school.
