Abstract
EFL coursebooks still become an essential teaching medium for teachers and a primary learning source for students. This research aims at identifying the types of cultural information, themes of culture and cultural aspects passages and exercisesin the textbook. The method used in this research was qualitative with content analysis. The textbook contains 14 chapters, divided into two subject materials. There were seven units for reading materials and seven units for writing materials. The analysis found that the international target culture, small “c” culture and “products” were dominantly presented in the textbook. Based on the research findings, it is suggested that English materials developers, especially the authors should include more source culture and target culture especially in Reading passages and Reading Exercises. Second, related to themes of culture, it is suggested that teachers need to provide students with more themes under Big “C” culture and small “c” culture to help them having the ability to effectively participate in intercultural settings. Third, related cultural aspects, the element of culture should be added, not only focused on product, but Practices, Persons and Perspectives should also complete and varied thus the learners will gain better understanding beyond the surface of the culture. Further, for the teacher, the textbook can be used as one of the learning sources in Islamic school/university.
