Abstract
Problem-solving abilities and communication skills are important and useful for students during their education and in the world of work. This study aims to analyze the problem-solving abilities and communication skills of students, identify the relationship between problem-solving abilities and communication skills, and the effectiveness of project-based flipped classroom learning. This research was conducted at SMAN 14 Semarang in the 2019/2020 academic year with the research subjects of 65 students of class XI MIPA. The sample was selected through a purposive sampling technique. This type of research is a quantitative quasi-experiment with a one-group pretest-postest design. The research data were obtained through a written essay test, observation, and interviews. Data analysis was carried out through scoring and hypothesis testing was carried out using the Pearson coefficient correlation test, average similarity test, and gain test. The results showed that the problem-solving abilities and communication skills of students were classified as moderate with the average percentage of 57% and 64%, respectively. The correlation test shows that there is a significant relationship between problem-solving abilities and communication skills of 0.27 with low criteria. Project-based flipped classroom learning was effective in improving the problem-solving abilities and communication skills of students but with low criteria with an increase of 0.25% and 0.45%. The research concludes that the problem-solving ability and communication skills of students are classified as moderate, the relationship between problem-solving abilities and communication skills are low, and project-based flipped classroom learning is effective in improving the problem-solving abilities and communication skills of students.
