Abstract

Students' perspectives regarding equilibrium and rotation dynamics in this study use a philosophical approach. This perspective is structured using the approach of epistemology, ontology, axiology and pedagogy. The research was conducted using a mixed method with a concurrent triangulation design. The purpose of this study was to determine the students' perspectives on equilibrium and rotation dynamics in epistemology, ontology, axiology before and after the learning process and to investigate the effect of the application of discovery learning on equilibrium and rotation dynamics. The research was conducted in class XI MIPA 2 and XI MIPA 3 SMA N 14 Semarang. Learning uses teaching materials with an ontology and axiology approach applied to class XI MIPA 2, while teaching materials with an epistemological and axiological approach are applied to class XI MIPA 3. Although there are differences in the emphasis of learning approaches, both of these classes use practicum. Quantitative data analysis was carried out through 3 tests, namely normality, homogeneity and hypothesis. The qualitative data is based on student response questionnaires and interviews. The results of data analysis show that in class XI MIPA 2 with an epistemological approach, the score is 71.56% in the moderate category, the ontology is 73.50% in the moderate category and 70.53 axiology with the moderate category. The class XI MIPA 3 on the epistemological approach obtained a score of 81.26% with the high category, 70.76% ontology with the moderate category and 66.29 axiology with the low category. Questionnaire responses of students in class XI MIPA 2 with an epistemological approach are included in the 79.12% agreement category, the ontology approach is in the category of strongly agree 82.79% and axiology is included in the category of strongly agree 83.53%. While class XI MIPA 3 obtained the results of the student response questionnaire on the epistemological approach 71.03% with the agreeing category, the ontology approach of 55.29% with the doubtful category and the axiology of 64.12% with the agreeing category. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the application of the discovery learning learning model between the epistemology and ontology classes in the material of equilibrium and rotation dynamics
