Abstract

Problem solving ability is one of the standard mathematical abilities that students must have. To support students' ability to solve problems, reinforcement in independent learning is carried out. self regulated learning is the ability of students to organize themselves in the learning process to achieve goals. In order to achieve accelerated results, assistance is provided with self-directed learning stages. Meanwhile, in order to foster a spirit of independent learning, students are given modules. Therefore, this study aims to determine the quality of self-directed learning with module on problem-solving abilities and to analyze problem-solving abilities from students’ self regulated learning in self directed learning with module. This type of research is a mixed method, with a sequential explanatory design. The quantitative research method is pre-experiment with one case study. While the qualitative research method is descriptive qualitative. The population of this study were all 11th grade students at SMA N 1 Mayong. The research instrument was a student self regulated learning questionnaire, mathematical problem solving ability test questions, modules, interview guides, and learning implementation sheets. The data analysis technique used quantitative data analysis and qualitative data analysis. The results showed: (1) the quality of self-directed learning towards the ability to solve mathematical problems was categorized as good. (2) Description of students' mathematical problem solving abilities from students’ self regulated learning, namely: (a) students with high self regulated learning categories can achieve the first, second and third indicators of mathematical problem solving abilities, (b) students with moderate self regulated learning categories can achieve the first indicator and secondly mathematical problem solving abilities, (c) students with low self regulated learning categories have not been able to achieve all indicators of mathematical problem solving abilities
