Abstract

The background of this research is the phenomenon of forest degradation and deforestation on the slopes of Mount Sindoro due to intensive agricultural activity by the community. Conservation agriculture is needed to reduce the rate of forest destruction, so it is considered necessary to do a research about the agricultural system of Tlahap pattern, a typical forestry agricultural pattern of Tlahap village in Kledung district of Temanggung Regency. The purpose of this research is to 1) analyze the implementation of Tlahap pattern agricultural system, 2) analyze the community's understanding of forest conservation, and 3) analyze the form of conservation education on Tlahap pattern agricultural system. This conservation education-themed research uses a mixed methods approach with exploratory sequential research design. The data used in this study is primary data and secondary data collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were farmers and informants. Descriptive quantitative and triangulation are used to analyze the data. The quantitative data validity is tested using validity and reliability test, with descriptive analysis. Qualitative data analysis uses qualitative analysis of interactive models with three panels, namely data collection, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The results showed the community of Tlahap village had an understanding of forest conservation. This can be known based on their viewpoint and treatment of forests. The community (farmers) carry out the agricultural system of Tlahap pattern ranging from land preparation, land and crop management, to harvesting with regard to vegetative, mechanical, and chemical conservation methods. In its implementation, The tlahap pattern agricultural system uses a geographical, economic, and socio�cultural approach. The geographical physical approach consists of conservation, diversification and maximization. The economic approach focuses on increasing revenue and marketing products, while the socio-culturalapproach is strengthening to farmers,supporting institutions (farmer groups), and maintain customs. Tlahap pattern agricultural system can be an effort to plant forest conservation education on the slopes of Mount Sindoro both on aspects of cognition, attitude, and behavior (practice) of the community. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the agricultural system of Tlahap pattern can be an example of a farming system that prioritizes aspects of forest conservation education. The advice that can be given is to recommend the Tlahap pattern agricultural system as a model or pilot of sustainable forestry farming to other communities within a wider scope
