Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out and analyze the socio-cultural profile of online transportation drivers, analyze and find the motives for choosing a profession as an online transportation driver, analyze how drivers are mobilized in the application of online transportation systems, how professionalism of online transportation drivers is and to find strategies to strengthen the existence of online transportation drivers in Semarang city. This research uses qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The informants in this study were 200 online transportation drivers and 160 online transportation consumers with the determination of the informants through a purposive sampling technique. This research was conducted from March 2019 to March 2020 in Semarang City, especially at Poncol Station, Tawang Station, Sekaran University Campus Semarang State, and Campus 1, PGRI University Semarang. Data collection techniques are using observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The triangulation used was source triangulation and technique triangulation. The data analysis technique uses interactive models. The results and conclusions of this study are the data on online transportation drivers in the city of Semarang include the age level, and the majority of drivers are between 17 and 38 years old by 67%. The majority of drivers are educated at SMA / SMK as much as 68%. The majority of drivers' previous work backgrounds were employees at 36%. The majority of online transportation drivers in Semarang City are sided drivers by 56%. When being an online transportation driver, the majority is between 1 and 2 years of 85%, and the income of online transportation drivers in Semarang City is the majority of their income is between more than Rp. 100,000 to Rp. 200,000 at 46%. A person's motive for choosing to work as an online transportation driver is due to economic motives, social interaction motives, self-development motives, and motives for adding social networks.
